Songs of the Day

Johnny Thunders - "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory"
Ken Nordine - "What Time is it"
Tim Hardin - "Black Sheep Boy"
Red Cross - "Annette's Got The Hits"

Yes, four songs. 8.95 of my crappy 10 meg limit on my Verizon site.

Jeronimo Restaurant

My regular lunch place Antojitos Salvadorenos was closed today so I went to a new place. New to me at least. I've walked passed the Jeronimo Restaurant everyday since I've been working at the court.

The waitress spoke no English by her own admission, and giggled every time I spoke Spanish. It didn't seem intended to be insulting. The food was fresh and tasty, and they were playing a cd of American pop sung in Spanish including the Pretenders "Back on the Chain gang." I will go back. The song of the day post will be later.

First Cook With New Grill

Matt got a beautiful new Char Broil grill. It's some sort of hybrid gas grill with radiant heat technology made by a company named TEC. I don't really understand it. I just know it gets really hot. Here are some pictures.

Song of the day

The work on the courtroom continues apace. New podiums were being brought into the room when I was leaving. They looked nice. I'm curious how things will turn out.

"Ride" by Robyn Hitchcock

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat

I know seventies nostalgia is dead, but it was my childhood so I'm not letting go. I promised my brother I would post this, and here it goes. Another newsgroup find. Again not the encoder, or original uploader.

Songs of the day. To make up for the slowdown of posts. Not much more to say. Played Guitar Hero for the first time. I truly am a Spazz. My guru, A young lady by the name of Anna, is truly a rock god.

weekend

Yesterday went to Gala Manor with my dad for dim sum. It was great fresh, hot, flavorful, and the carts were brought around regularly and were filled with a large variety, not the same stuff brought around again and again. I would post pictures except that mine all turned out crappy. It was expensive, $70 for just two people, but it was the best I've had in a long time. Only World Tong, Oriental Garden and maybe Gum Fung come close. The website is almost entirely in Chinese and therefore lost on me.

Returned to 99 miles to Philly today. It was the place I started at befor going to Tony Luke's and Carl's Downtown. I was reminded how much I enjoy it. Carl's may be slightly better, but it's a close call.

Cold Cold Cold

Holy fucking shit. Is it too much to for ask for either my apartment or my office to have some fucking heat? I should not be shivering when I am indoors. I pay my rent most of the time. Is it too much to expect to not be cold? I'm not asking for warmth just not teeth chattering cold. I have a sweater on. That's not right.

The song of the day. Steve Forbert "The American in Me"

Weary.

All through this crazy day at work I had ideas, plans, thoughts of what I was going to write, but now I can't think of anything. I was going to talk about Shrub and his dad Papi and how they created a massive disaster in Iraq, and how Bush must hate America because of all they horrible things he's done to it, and considering how intensively he spies on Americans how he must have thought the only problem with Stalin was is that he wasn't a capitalist. But it's all a blur, and only all I want to do is sleep. Two yes two songs of the day to make up for yesterdays none. Mink Lungs "Think of Me," and Sinkcharmer "Rubber Legs." Enjoy.

Emily

It is my cousin Emily's birthday today and my brother cooked the bulk of the food. Many other people brought food including her friend Shari, I hope I'm spelling that right, who is a very good cook. Makes good guacamole. I spent most of my time hanging around the pit with Matt because I am a social retard. Got up at 6:40 got home about 10 felt like 2 am. That is all.

Song of the day is Neko Case That Teenage Feeling.

Song of the Day

Since the Sharon Old's poem was short I have server space available. So I decided to add a Song of the Day. Here is Proof from the Embarrassment. Taken from the My Pal God record Blister Pop

Carl's Steaks

Ever since I discovered that 99 Miles to Philly was so close I've been on a big cheesesteak binge. I've now been to I've been to the three most tradition places:Tony Luke's, 99 miles and Carl's. I been giving Tony Luke's the nod, but Carl's is a fierce competitor. With double meat, double cheese, onions and two kinds of peppers(hot and sweet) it is a generous sandwich. It's not cheap. to sandwiches one whiz, one provolone were $23.84

Club TPVA

Under the traffic court there is a large basement where we store the cash receipts, and other financial transactions in case we make a mistake or need to have proof of something. It is said to be both dirty and smelly with a side order of vermin, oh and dusty as hell. I wouldn't know I've never been there. It is however supposed to be huge, and have a bathroom with a shower. Makes me wonder what the building was used for before it was a court. None of this is really important. My friend Dr. GS Lover and I have often talked about putting a club done there so that instead of just sitting in the courtroom people could be downstairs partying until they have their conference. It's the only civilized thing to do. I could be wrong.

No song of the day but I still have an audio treat, Jim Carroll "For Elizabeth," taken from Jim's website via Roxio media creator 9's record from your sound card feature.

Jamaican Flavors

I don't know what makes a Jamaican patty good. How to judge the dough, or the filling? However when I want one this is the place I go. It's convent, delicious and generally has a long line. My crappy picture doesn't do it justice.

165th street down the block from the Long Island bus terminal.

The song of the Day. Rob Fulks "Where Theres a Road" from Opry Plaza / Nashville, TN, June 4, 2005. Had to sacrifice the bitrate on this one. Taken from a flac. Only a 224 kbps instead of 320 should still sound ok.

Traffic Court Meditations

Their are some bad divers out their. Not a bold statement, but when you work at a traffic court you really see them. The ones so bad not even a lawyer, a good lawyer can really help them. If you get more than three speeding tickets in three months all twenty plus over the limit you're in big trouble. That's the thing it's not how fast but how much over, unless it ninety plus because even in a sixty five zone that's way over. 1-10 is three points, 11-20 is four,21-30 is six points and 31-40 is eight and 40+ is eleven, and that gets you a revocation. We get people in a lot more trouble than that. Six and seven 6 point speeds, multiple insurance tickets, red lights and stop signs. People in real jams, and you look at their records and think just from the suspensions fees it costs them a fortune to be that bad on the road. Every suspension lift is 35 dollars, and some people have dozens of them. It makes me ill thinking about. And that's just the movers.

Song of the day. Elton John. Apparently he is a big Nick Drake cover and his early demos have many Nick Drake covers. This is Way to Blue

New and Improved song of the day

The song of the Day is Already Dead by Cobra Verde. Cobra Verde were at the best in my humble opinion with their first full length LP and the Vintage Crime EP. Their first LP is relatively new to me having first listened to them when I got a tape from Don Depew in 1997. We were looking for a studio to record a never completed Spare Me project. My brother Matt had later bought the Vintage Crime EP, and I listened to it a lot. Great sense of design. Loved them from the first time I heard them. Great live and in the studio and John Petkovic has always been super cool whenever I spoke to or emailed him.

Ben Reiser

I've been a fan of Ben and his former band All About Chad since I heard Vivien Leigh on a flexidisc with the Jelly Slide fanzine years ago and had Spare Me Records not crashed and burned we most certainly would have released some of his music. I have no idea if the band still exists. I'm looking into it, but here is the web site for his most current project Swim Team.

The Minders live

A new feature of on the d/l. The song of the day. Todays song is The Minder's cover of Everybody Knows This is Nowhere by Neil Young from the 40 Watt Club on 8/19/06. It was taken from the http://www.southernshelter.com/ website.

more free web space

Now I have a Geocities free site.

The Verizon site has 10 mb of space the Geocities 15. Should be enough to get started. That is if I can figure out what I'm doing.

Frustration

Have established the webspace on the Verizon server and can see it.

http://mysite.verizon.net/hiroshi2/

But for whatever reason. I can't actually post anything to it. Granted I know nothing about site building, or FTP, but it is still distressing and aggravating. It's late and most likely I'm just not clear headed enough to realize what's going wrong, but I think I'll need help to get started and/or some real web building software like Home Site. Tomorrow, really later on today, is another day.

On the D/l new and improved

Since the first day I have endeavored to improve my meager blogging skills, however today is momentous day for On the D/l. The links in the previous blogs are now live, and I have added a temporary icon. I have also established a photobucket account for my camera phone pictures. Also if all goes well I should have my free Verizon website up and running so I can post the song of the day.

Sufjan Stevens

I think his music is moving and beautiful. It ranges from lush, heavily arranged and orchestrated to spare and intimate. He releases a lot of music. My brother Matt introduced me to him with the song Chicago. Which I love. You should be able to find his stuff on your favorite bit torrent site, and/or online store.

His label has some nice shirts and mp3's I'm sure.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded by the light

Thank you You Tube. Oh man how I love me some Manfred Man. Granted I don't know a single other song, but this I love. Makes me feel nine years old ago and listening to records in my parents house. Chicago, The Who, The Beatles, ELP, Traffic, ELO. All the most gratuitous art rock I could find. I rocked the Paradise. It's also a good cover. A real interpretation of Bruce's original. A bit overblown and mannered, but I love it. The uploader of the live version I saw was SCC1962, but there were other versions including a nine minute one.
