Death Penalty

I got into a discussion about the death penalty at work. It's just a laugh riot at the traffic court. I said said cops, and other civil servents should be considered a protected class and knowingly attacking and killing one of them should bring the death penalty. This includes traffic court clerks. Glen disagreed. He stated all victims should be valued equally and what they did should not be a factor in terms of penalties. Senator, or record store clerk it just shouldn't matter. I just can't agree. However you may feel about law enforcement they are the legitimate face of authority in this country, which of course makes their abuses many more times as serious as the average persons. When you attack the agents of this country you attack this country.

Hempstead

You can walk around Manhattan or the rest of New York, and you might get a whiff of pot, or see someone every so often smoking a joint. Hempstead is not like that. It's in the name hemp, and totally blatant. Clearly no one is afraid of being arrested, or they just don't care. Every morning. I mean every morning I run across someone getting high, or the tell tale pile of tobacco signifying that a blunt was rolled there, and the little plastic baggies that most likely held weed at some point. Whatever it takes to get you through the day is all right with me for the most part. If you really need to be smoking a joint on the way to the ATM, or the grocery store, or spend the whole day high. Been there, done that. I was in my apartment at the time but I'm sympathetic. I'm just stunned when I see people out on the street blazing while the cops just roll by.

Matamoros Puebla Taqueria y Grocery

I had intended to meet up my dad so he could show me his Macbook. It's the black version of the 13 inch Macbook. But my mom was sick and so that didn't happen. I had nothing to do but sleep and eat. My friend James had mention Al Pastor tacos in a recent e-mail. So I took the Q54 to Williamsburg and made my to Bedford Ave. The place is tiny and has setting for at most maybe 12 people. The service is not lightening quick, but the prices are low and the food is great. The Al Pastor tacos are the right balance of sweet and tangy, and super tender. The Chorizo Burrito I brought home for dinner was smothered in tangy cheese and delicious green salsa.

Tony Luke's

Yummy. Went to Tony Luke's First time I tried to go there they were renovating, so I walked over to Daisy May's. Very good as well, but not on point. The roast pork Italian is a heck of a sandwich. The pork is sweet, tangy and tender as heck. Perfectly cooked. As I live far away from them my sandwich was cold by the time I got back to Queens. I can only imagine how much better it would be fresh. Since I was there I also got a cheese steak with onions and hots. For later. It's a great sandwich, no doubt, but is it the best? I don't know. My favorite from NY is probably Carl's, but since it is closer to home I'm at 99 miles a lot more, however they do not serve roast pork sandwiches, or Italian Hoagies.

Antojitos Salvadorenos

Antojitos Salvadorenos is a local Salvadoran/Mexican place I eat at regularly. I usually get the chorizo and Eggs. It comes with avocado, beans and a tortilla. With a Tamarind soda it comes to $9. It's not cheap but tasty and filling. I did a web search about the place, and it did come up a lot, but nothing more than an address, phone number and some times a map.

At the court house

I work at a traffic court and therefore I am around cops and other law enforcement from state police and highway troopers to meter maids. It is very strange to be around so many people with guns. At first it was very disconcerting. People just don't usually bring guns to work. Even now it is unsettling to see the officers walk around with their weapons. Guns, I just don't like them. Not in my real life at least.

On top of old Smokey's

Smokey's Rib pit formerly of Sutphin Blvd is now on Seventh Street in Garden City. I was not a regular at Smokey's only having gone their once on my way to my folks place on the island, but I had plans. They made good brisket, tasty mac and cheese as well as fries and onion rings. Real BBQ, not great, but compared to McDonald's or Golden Krust it might as well have been Bryant's. Now it is gone, well not gone, but wherever Garden City is.

Mac Book Pro

I am in love with the idea of my potential new computer. A fifteen inch refurbished duo core mac book pro. My last Apple was some form of Power PC which was obsolete when I was given it. It had a 150 meg hard drive and when it was printing it couldn't do anything else. I went from that to a 400 megahertz p2 and was PC for about a decade, and am now bored silly with the idea of another windows machine. A new Gui is not going to be enough. So for now the Mac seems exotic and new.

First post. 1/23/07

I promised Jeff I would post something tonight. I just watched Battlestar Galactica 3 X 12 The Rapture. That was some good stuff. The encode I downloaded was only 286 megs. Which seems really small, but looked and sounded great. Weddle and Thompson wrote a heck of a script, and Michael Rhymer made it nice. I can't wait to hear what Baltar has to say for himself.
